A Different Kind of Sock

This sock is the kind you hang 'on the chimney with care,' and it's for my newest little cousin, Clayton. It's an old Mary Maxim pattern, but I make it slightly larger -- about 24 inches long. And yes, it is acrylic yarn for easy care in all climates. :)

Sometimes, for very special couples (who have been pre-qualified as those who would appreciate such), I will knit a pair of Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus Christmas stockings as a wedding present. Later on, as children arrive to these couples, I'll knit a coordinating stocking for baby's first Christmas. I just love visiting these homes and seeing well-used stockings hanging on the mantels year after year. Clayton's stocking will join those of his big sister Kylie and their parents.

Welcome, Clayton! Enjoy!

Hi Beth! Great stocking! My youngest son (age 23) still uses his Mary Maxim stocking I knit for him years ago. Love keeping up with you thru your blog...

I have been looking everywhere for this Rudolph pattern. I have the pattern pages for the Rudolph, Snowman, and Santa, and the first page, BUT I am missing the second page of the actual knitting instructions. Can you please give me an idea where to find the missing page. The pattern is 8190 Rudolph, #8192 Santa, and #8193 Snowman. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY INFO!!! over the years the instruction page has been lost.

Barbara, I got these patterns from Mary Maxim. The actual sock pattern is the same for all of them, just the design chart is different. Mary Maxim has re-published many of the old patterns in booklets, which are available on their website. I believe the three patterns you mentioned are all in Booklet 1. Good luck and happy knitting! :)

Hello!
I've just been asked to knit this pattern! They brought me the stocking and asked if I could knit 10 more just like it. I was planning to just copy it, but since I now know it's a pattern still available...well, that makes it a bit faster. :-) I looked at the Mary Maxim site & couldn't tell which book this pattern is in. Could you point me in the right direction? Thanks so much...
Merry Christmas!

I believe this is in Book 1. :) 10 stockings! You will have memorized the pattern long before # 10 is off your needles! :)

I am so excited to find others who have these patterns. I have knitted the Rudolph, Santa, and Snowman for my niece, nephews, and daughters. I am now beginning for spouses and next generation children. I have the Rudolph and Snowman intructions but I have lost the Santa directions and want one so very much! I have contacted Mary Maxim in the past but haven't had success in finding the pattern. Can someone help?

My childhood stocking was very similar, except there was Santa instead of a reindeer!!! I'd like to find the pattern, as my mother stopped knitting before my niece was born in 1994 and my son in 1995. I'd love to knit stockings for them that match our Santa stockings!!! :-)
